12 members present Exchange student Vinnie. Pres. Rob welcomed all present Thanks to members who attended the Braam Malherbe talk at Bergvliet HS. Special thanks to Justin for all his hard work in putting the show together. Reminder to members to please stay on and help clear up after such events. None reported Dennis: Hosted the last leaving Kansas couple, after taking them around various sites, Llandudno, Town and Rhodes Memorial. After returning home, the couple realised their Ipad was missing. They returned to Rhodes Memorial and luckily, a young chap had found it at the coffee shop. Alan: Took the first of the visiting Kansans to the airport at 4:15am! Dave: Reported that his mother is now out of hospital and recovering well from her recent ordeal at her home in Kenton. Biffy: 1. All is on track for the Luderitz Conference. She updated the Club on the travel arrangements. 7 Rotarians are going, including one from Luanda. 2. Received an invitation for the Club to participate in a Shelterbox Project in Stellenbosch on 12th May. Justin to enquire whether Club members or Rotaract are interested in attending. 3. New pricing for meals at Palm House are now in place. Dennis: Had received greetings to the Club from Odd Henning in Norway. Justin gave a brief report back on the recent Rotary Braam Malherbe talk at Bergvliet High School Hall. The talk had been well received and appreciated by all those who attended. Will need to look carefully at the marketing of these Talks for the future as attendance had been disappointingly low, particularly from the Interact Clubs. After costs, a small loss of approx. R250 was made on this event. Dave and Alan entertained all present with some amusing stories and video clips. Justin showed Members all the features and updates on the Wynberg Rotary webpage. The Sweetie Pie award was given to Justin and Ruth for organizing the Braam Malherbe talk. A new Jackpot starting with R610. Amazingly the 9 of diamonds was drawn again (1:52 chance!) Karen incorrectly drew the Queen of spades and Kit won the R15 attendance prize.

Lord, Keep Your arm around my shoulder, and Your hand over my mouth!
Hugh’s Nughs Yes, Mrs Maunder’s little boy, Hugh is travelling again; and shares a yarn told to him in Northern Ireland:
Legend will tell you that “The Giant’s Causeway” is the aftermath of volcanic lava crashing, burning and cooling. An epic 60-million-year-old legacy to lava. Over 40,000 basalt columns are Interlocked. In fact, it was built by a giant by the name of Finn McCool who was having trouble with someone across the water. The Scottish giant Benandonner was threatening Ireland. An enraged Finn grabbed chunks of the Antrim coast and threw them into the sea. The rocks formed a path for Finn to follow and teach Benandonner a lesson….. Bad idea – Benandonner was terrifyingly massive. Finn beat a hasty retreat, followed by the giant, only to be saved by our hero’s quick-thinking wife who disguised him as a baby. The angry Scot saw the baby and decided if the child was that big, the daddy must be really huge. He ran back to Scotland and destroyed most of the causeway from his end.
Tailpiece A social worker from a big city recently transferred to a tiny community and was on the first tour of her new area when she came upon the tiniest cabin she had ever seen in her life. Intrigued, she went up and knocked on the door. “Anybody home?” she asked. “Yep,” came a kid’s voice through the door. “Is your father there?” asked the social worker. “Pa? Nope, he left afore Ma came in,” said the kid. “Well, is your mother there?” persisted the social worker. “Ma? Nope, she left just afore I got here,” said the kid. “But,” protested the social worker, (thinking that surely she will need to intervene in this situation) “are you never together as a family?” “Sure, but not here,” said the kid through the door. “This is the outhouse!”
